Sintered Stone vs Granite vs Quartz

Worktop Guide Ireland

Homeowners are no longer simply selecting a colour or finish. They are choosing how a material will perform, how it will age, and how it will feel to live with over time. Browse our full stone collections to explore quartz, porcelain and natural stone finishes, or visit our showroom in Galway to see every material in person.

Natural stone

What is Granite?

Granite is a natural stone, formed deep within the earth over millions of years. Each slab is entirely unique, defined by its mineral composition, veining and natural variation that simply cannot be replicated by any engineered alternative.

Modern granite has evolved considerably. Today's selections lean towards cleaner movement, softer tones and architectural finishes, moving away from the heavily speckled styles that defined earlier decades.

Granite worktops remain one of the most durable surfaces available, naturally resistant to heat, scratching and everyday wear. See our full range of natural stone finishes in our stone collections, or learn more about worktop details and finishing options to complete your specification.

What is Quartz?

Quartz is an engineered stone, made by combining natural quartz crystals with resins and pigments under controlled manufacturing conditions. This process allows for a more consistent and predictable finish across every slab.

Unlike granite, quartz offers uniformity. Colours and patterns can be replicated across slabs, making it significantly easier to achieve a seamless, coordinated look in contemporary kitchens and bathrooms.

Our quartz collections include Silestone by Cosentino, Qstone, Casla and SF Quartz, all available to browse in our stone collections and to view in person at our Galway showroom.

Ultra-compact surface

What is Sintered Stone?

Sintered stone is a man-made material, created by subjecting natural minerals to extreme heat and pressure, replicating the geological formation of stone in a highly controlled, accelerated process.

The result is a highly compact surface engineered for maximum performance. Available in large-format slabs, it delivers minimal visible joins and outstanding resistance to heat, UV exposure and staining, performing equally well indoors and outdoors.

Our sintered stone and porcelain ranges, including Dekton by Cosentino and Infinity Surfaces, are available to browse in our stone collections. See how these materials perform across real Irish kitchens in our completed projects gallery.
